Watching films on repeat is part of the deal when you have kids. As much as I like Robin Hood (1973), it was never my intention to memorize every single piece of dialogue, start to finish. With that in mind, here are some lesser known Disney films that are excellent and are probably not in your rotation.
So Dear To My Heart (1948)
A personal favorite of Walt Disney, this is a touching film that combines live-action and animation.
Darby O'Gill and the Little People (1959)
One of the best fantasy films to ever come from the Disney studio, and with some of the greatest practical special effects ever put to film. Peter Ellenshaw's matte shots are a thing of beauty.
Third Man On The Mountain (1959)
Magnificent scenery, rousing adventure, and first-rate performances make this a thrilling experience.
The Three Lives of Thomasina (1963)
A charming film with an excellent cast - this film delivers a sentimental and sweet escape with a vintage Disney touch.
Treasure Island (1950)
This classic adventure tale has been filmed many times but Robert Newton's portrayal of Long John Silver will always be the standard.
The classic Disney films such as 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Swiss Family Robinson, The Parent Trap, Old Yeller, Mary Poppins, etc... are always fun - but the studio produced a wealth of other films that are not as well known today.
